The main way of Gonorrhea transmission it's through intercourse without condom use with an infected person, whether through oral, vaginal or anal sex. Another form of gonorrhea transmission is during vaginal delivery if the mother is infected, thus transmitting to the baby.
This type of transmission can severely affect the baby's eyes, causing conjunctivitis and can lead to blindness. Even without presenting symptoms, infected women transmit the bacteria that causes the disease. In most maternity wards there is the practice of dripping silver nitrate drops in newborns to combat this transmission.
The incubation period of gonorrhea varies from 2 to 8 days. The risk of an infected person transmitting the disease to the partner is 50% for each sexual intercourse. Proper treatment stops the transmission quickly.
Main symptoms of gonorrhea:
- Burning and difficulty urinating, between 2 and 8 days after unprotected intercourse;
- A yellowish or greenish discharge (even with blood) may appear from the urine channel, the man, and the vagina, the woman.
O treatment of gonorrhea is done with antibiotics that work effectively. It is important that the couple do the treatment and during this period does not have sex.
Pregnant women should undergo treatment as soon as possible, as gonorrhea can cause blindness and infection in the baby's blood and joints.
If not properly treated, gonorrhea can cause sterility, meningitis, affect the bones and also the heart.
