Trachoma is contagious eye infection caused by bacteria Chlamydia trachomatis which can lead to blindness.
Transmission of the bacteria can occur through contact direct with secretions ocular, nasal or salivary or through contaminated objects such as sheets and bath towels.
The symptoms can be:
- Lacrimation;
- Mucopurulent secretion in the eyes;
- Eye irritability;
- Inflammation of the conjunctiva (conjunctivitis).
O treatment of trachoma is done with the use of antibiotic, cleaning ocular, performance of surgery or corneal transplantation depending on the grievance.
