Is it normal for me to feel colic during pregnancy?

Expert answer:

Yes, it is relatively normal and common feel cramps during pregnancy, mainly in the 1st and 3rd quarter gestation.

However, if colic is very strong and common or come with vaginal discharge, you must report your medical obstetrician.

There are several Causes of Colic during Pregnancy, such as:

  • Growth of the uterus, if it is the first gestation;
  • Adhesions resulting from surgery prior to pregnancy;
  • Move the baby if it is late in the gestation.

However, colic may also be related to vaginal discharge or urinary infection.

This is because discharge has bacteria which can cause a urinary tract infection or contaminate the uterus and the fallopian tubes

Sometimes the pregnant woman may actually be bladder pain because of the infection and ends up confusing the pain with colic.
