Feet suck too much, what can it be?

Expert answer:

Your feet may sweat too much because of a normal body reaction or hyperhidrosis. Sweat is eliminated by the sweat glands, usually in situations of reaction to stress and also as a way to control body temperature, cooling it when the environment is very hot or when some physical activity is performed.

Already, hyperhidrosis is an exaggerated reaction of the sweat glands that causes excessive sweating without there being heat or physical activity, often triggered by stress. It may not have a definite cause, probably of genetic origin, and may be present in other people in the family. Excessive sweating can reach several parts of the body beyond the feet, such as the armpits, hands, chest, nape, groin area (inguinal), below the breasts, face and scalp.

Treatment to relieve the symptoms of hyperhidrosis can be done by using some oral medications, topical products with aluminum chloride used to pass under the armpits and hands and botox injections, which act by blocking the stimulation of the sweat glands. In the surgical treatment a sympathetic nervous system (sympathectomy) block is performed in the thorax, responsible for the sweat stimulus, and is indicated in some cases.

Excessive sweating can also occur due to other diseases such as obesity, hyperthyroidism, menopause and psychiatric disorders. In these situations it is necessary to treat the underlying pathology to solve it.

The general practitioner can make the initial assessment and referrals necessary for proper diagnosis and treatment.
