I had an appendix surgery 30 days ago and I have pain, nausea and pain in the abdomen. What can it be?

I had an appendix surgery almost 30 days ago and for a week I'm feeling pain, nausea in the belly, pain to evacuate and pee. I'm also evacuating 5 times a day and my legs started to hurt too. I wonder why?
Expert answer:

After the appendicitis surgery, it is normal to feel at the surgery site because the region of the scar can become sensitive.

In addition, the healing process can form internal scars that bind different parts of the intestine (intestinal flanges), causing discomfort, pain and difficulty to evacuate.

However, symptoms such as diarrhea, pain to evacuate and urinate, besides the pain in the legs, thirty days after the appendicitis surgery, should be evaluated by a doctor of urgency, as they may indicate some infection or complication arising from the operation.

Some of complications which may occur during or after a appendectomy are:

  • Bleeding;
  • Infection at the site of the cut or abdomen;
  • Injuries to the bladder, bowel, blood vessels, or nerves near the surgery site.

If the abdominal pain is very strong and there is no relief from the prescribed medications, contact your doctor or go to an emergency room.
