Omeprazole for esophagitis and pain in the stomach. How long does it take to take effect?

Three years ago I had an esophagitis that made me feel like a cake in my throat. I dealt with normal remedies and herbs for stress. Now it all came back again and with pain in the stomach. I have been taking Omeprazole for 2 weeks and have had little improvement. Should I go to the doctor and do new endoscopy? How long does the medication take to take effect?

Generally, omeprazole produces a rapid improvement of symptoms esophagitis, ulcer or gastritis, and can heal an ulcer within 8 weeks. However, the pain relief in the stomach it can take a while several days.

It may be necessary to use some antacid, together with omeprazole, to help relieve the stomach pains, but always according to medical guidance.

If you are taking omeprazole there is two weeks and has not improved much, you should first talk to your gastroenterologist, which will evaluate the need to do or not another endoscopy.

However, make sure you are taking omeprazole correctly. If the medication is not used correctly, it may not produce the expected effects.

How to take omeprazole correctly?

The correct thing is to take omeprazole just before meals, preferably 15 minutes before breakfast.

If there is difficulty swallowing capsules, open them and mix content with a bit of fruit juice or cold water and drink immediately.

Do not chew the microgranules the inside of the capsules and do not mix with milk.

Even if you're already feeling better, do not stop the treatment before the time determined by the doctor.
