What is the period of chickenpox contagion?

Expert answer:

O period of chickenpox contagion (varicella) begins 48 hours before the blisters appear and ends when there is crust formation in all injuries. This can take an average of 1 week.

Chickenpox is a disease highly contagious transmitted by direct skin contact with the vesicle fluid or by the saliva and respiratory secretion of the infected person.

The risk of transmission is high if there is close contact or stay of more than one hour in the same closed environment.

The incubation period of chickenpox is, on average, between 14 and 16 days. After this period, the first symptoms appear: fever, tiredness, headache, loss of appetite that are followed by reddish patches mainly on the face, trunk and extremities. These spots turn into blisters that are itchy. Finally, the bubbles dry and form crusts.

Once infected, the person is immune permanently and does not develop chicken pox again.
