Can I take Perlutan breastfeeding?

Is it true that Perlutan is contraindicated for those who are breastfeeding?
Expert answer:

No, the Perlutan is contraindicated the first 6 months after delivery to women who are breastfeeding, because the use of injectable contraceptives can reduce the quantity and quality of breast milk, thus damaging the baby's health.

Hormonal contraceptive methods permitted in the first 6 months after giving birth and during breastfeeding should contain only progesterone, because those that are combined with estradiol (estrogen) inhibit lactation.

Once Perlutan contains estrogen in its formulation, it may interfere with lactation and therefore can not be used during breastfeeding.

Perlutan is also contraindicated in the first 6 weeks after delivery, even for non-breastfeeding women, since blood clotting is not yet normalized in this period.

Other contraceptive methods should be used by women who are breastfeeding. For the best method, consult your gynecologist, general practitioner or family doctor.
