O normal value range of GT ranges from 0 to 30 U / L, being slightly higher in males than in females. This reference value of the GT-Range may vary slightly according to each laboratory, generally being within the following ranges:
- Man: 07 to 60 U / L;
- Woman: 05 to 43 U / L.
The Gama-GT exam (gamma glutamyl transferase) it is a blood test which measures the blood level of this enzyme in the liver, pancreas, kidneys, spleen, heart and brain.
The increase of this enzyme is present in some diseases of the liver, pancreas and biliary. Thus, the exam helps to diagnose liver changes, hepatitis, cirrhosis, liver cancer and pancreatitis.
It is also used to assess liver disorders caused by medicines and during the treatment of alcoholism, since the GT-Range rises rapidly with the
consumption of alcoholic beverage.
With an isolated value of GT Range it is not possible to establish any diagnosis. It should be correlated with the outcome of other hepatic enzymes and with the clinical picture of the patient.
