After a skin graft can it smell really bad?

Exmo Dr. Charles, I hope you will kindly respond to me as soon as possible. I live in Europe. I just wonder if after a skin exert it can smell really bad without having underlying bacterial infection? and for 8 days the dressing where the dressing was placed has not been changed (will it be a normal procedure?). I assure you of the utmost secrecy if you answer me, because I understand the underlying ethical issues. But at the moment it's about going in time to save a life. I appreciate the time you have given. My respectful compliments Catarina
Expert answer:

The location of a graft may have a rather unpleasant odor due to parts of the tissue that may have small areas of necrosis (bad smell is subjective in this case), but any changes in this case should be taken into account (smell, secretion, fever, redness). Three situations may be occurring: misinterpretation of that smell, graft necrosis (tissue death) or infection on site, need to seek medical advice.
