Spot in the womb: what can it be?

Expert answer:

Stains in uterus may be a sign of HPV infection, trichomoniasis, endometriosis, colitis or ectopia, depending on the staining of these spots (white, red, dark).

The part of the uterus that can be seen by the vaginal speculum is the cervix. Therefore, the presence of these spots can be seen in the preventive exam or Pap smear and on Colposcopy.

White spots and thick in the uterus may indicate the presence of HPV (Human Papilloma Virus). Depending on the degree of tissue involvement, it may only mean the presence of the virus or precursor lesions of the cancer of the cervix.

Dark or red spots may be a sign of endometriosis, which is the presence of tissue from the internal cavity of the uterus (endometrium) outside of it or in other organs such as ovaries, bladder, vagina, intestine, among others.

Red spots may also suggest colpite (inflammation in the cervix) caused by the protozoan Trichomonas vaginalis or yet ectopia of the uterine cervix, which is the exteriorization of the inner layer of the cervix.

The gynecologist and family doctor can diagnose the cause of blemishes in the uterus and guide appropriate treatment in each situation.
