After the tubal ligation, the safe period for having intercourse without pregnancy depends on the technique used, which goes from one week to three months.
Tubal ligation, also known as tubal ligation or female sterilization surgery, is a technique in which the fallopian tubes are blocked so that they do not allow the ovum to meet with the sperm, preventing fertilization and pregnancy. Depending on the technique used will be defined the necessary time of waiting to have sexual intercourse without using another contraceptive method.

Ligation techniques:
- cut of the tubes, block with rings, clips or electrocoagulation (firing): one can have sexual relations after approximately 10 days,
- use of Essure®, a device that causes a fibrosis reaction in the fallopian tubes: sexual intercourse can be achieved after approximately 3 months, with the need for tests to confirm the closure of the tube.
The gynecologist or obstetrician should be consulted in these situations, for the proper orientation over which period needed to have sexual intercourse in a safe way after the tubal ligation.
