I have umbilical hernia. Can I continue working out?

I've had umbilical hernia for about 2 months and I've never felt anything. I did the gym two years ago. Can I continue working out?
Expert answer:

If you have umbilical hernia, you should first careful medical evaluation before continuing to work. Lifting weights at the gym or exercising hard workouts increases pressure inside the abdomen and pushes the umbilical hernia out.

As the hernia is recent, it may be possible to return your contents to the place of origin. Small hernias that do not cause symptoms can only be monitored and do not need to be operated on urgently.

However, if the umbilical hernia is very bulky and the place where it passes is very narrow, it may not be possible to reduce it. This situation is very dangerous because of the risk of hernia strangulation, which can lead to death if not treated in time.

Most umbilical hernias in adults need surgical treatment, because the hernial ring is usually very narrow and rigid, which increases the chances of incarceration and strangulation.
