Urine comes out green, what can it be?

Expert answer:

Green, light green or lime green urine may be caused by the ingestion of large amounts of chlorophyll present in green foods, spirulina and algae-based food supplements, or food dyes such as aniline and gardenia used in the food industry, often in bakery products. Dyes present in medications, such as methylene blue, may also give a green color to the urine. In addition, the presence of some urinary infections caused by bacteria may have a characteristic urine with pus (pyuria) which may give the appearance of greenish urine.

Green urine in pregnancy may occur for the same reasons as above, so to detect an infection that may harm a baby, the general practitioner or obstetrician should be consulted for appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
