The high monocytes, a condition called monocytosis, can be caused by, among several other reasons:
- Recovery of acute infections;
- Chronic infections;
- Inflammatory Bowel Disease;
- Cancer;
- Inflammatory processes (such as systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis);
- Use of some medications;
- After removal of the spleen;
- Chemotherapy.
O monocyte it's a kind of white blood cell, defense cell which plays an important role in fighting fungi, viruses and bacteria, as well as participating in inflammatory processes.
Increasing monocytes alone is not a common situation. In these cases, medical follow-up is recommended for a detailed evaluation and, incidentally, repetition of the examination.
