What is the treatment for septate hyphae?

Expert answer:

The septate hyphae are structures characteristic of some fungi that are the causative agents of mycoses as in superficial lesions on the skin and nails, or diseases in the organism (systemic). Its treatment is based on the use of antifungal agents that can be of local use (ointments or creams), oral use (tablets or capsules) or by venous application, made in hospitals. Sulfate and potassium iodide medicines may also be used in some cases.

Some types of mycoses that present septate hyphae:

  • pityriasis versicolor occurs on the skin, with scaly spots, darker or colorless, present on the face, neck and thorax,
  • the tinea nigra occurs on the skin, with brown spots on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet,
  • the onychomycosis that reach the nails,
  • the interdigitals that reach the region between the toes (frieira),
  • sporotrichosis that reaches the region below the skin (subcutaneous),
  • the ocular mycosis that reaches the structures of the eye, such as tear, conjunctiva and cornea channels,
  • aspergillosis, coccidioidomycosis and paracoccidioidomycosis, which usually arise due to problems in the body's immunity, can reach several sites in the body, such as the lungs and brain.

Treatment for fungal infections can be time-consuming and should be followed until the problem is solved. The dermatologist or infectologist are the specialists to be consulted in these situations.
